Bio of Steve Tristan, Director of Operations

Steve Tristan is an entrepreneur, director of operations, and marketing professional. He is the founder of Best Custom Screens, Blindandscreen.com, JT Blinds, and Best Install Team.

Starting from very humble beginnings his professional and personal life flourished. His childhood was surrounded by poverty, abuse, alcoholism and drug addiction but that did not hinder him. Steve made a decision at a very young age to not be like the people around him and drove himself to be successful. He took that passion, as well as driven hard work into his professional life.

Professional Life

While still in college, Steve was introduced to the window coverings business. Nearly 30 years ago, he applied for an installation position at a local window coverings manufacturer and install company. He applied his ambition and work ethic to this new endeavor and was able to climb the ladder from Vertical Blinds Installer to National Sales Manager in just a few short years.

Next, he started in 1990 as an installation trainee and naturally became an installer. He then was given the opportunity to move into the office as a Customer Service Representative. After that, his knowledge in the field brought an entirely new concept into serving the client.

Customer Service

Within a year he became the Customer Service Manager for two divisions of the company. He serviced both the wholesale window coverings industry and property management – construction markets. His passion at the time was to serve the customer and to find a way to grow sales by offering the best service.

Then, he moved forward by reaching goals of a Sales Representative and eventually the company’s National Sales Manager. He continued to manage the customer service department and sales staff as he focused on the company’s marketing. This included exhibiting at a large number of industry trade shows. On top of this, he learned how to build a company website because he knew the internet would be in our future.

Hands On

With twelve years of hands on work experience in his pocket, Steve made the risky decision to establish his first company. In 2002, Steve suddenly quit his job and established the family based business, JT Blinds. With only their faith and four children at home, he and his wife, Juanita, jump-started the company. Together they served the local San Fernando Valley market with window coverings and window screens installation plus repair.

At first it was a small home based business but quickly grew into their first location in Mission Hills, CA. The demand continued to grow and the company moved from several locations in Sylmar, San Fernando, and now in Acton. The company made leaps forward when they decided to move the company to become a leader in the online market. With two ECommerce websites, the company is making strides to better American homes by providing the Best.

Steve is the type of person that always wants to learn new things and expand his outlook on life with books, research, education, and training. For example, he looked into a person by the name of Tony Robbins to learn more about being motivated in the business world.

Education & Training

After learning from Tony Robbins, Steve is now a part of the Mastery University which includes Date with Destiny, Life & Wealth Mastery, and Results Coaching. In addition, he has completed the Business Mastery program. Interestingly, he has taken company employees to the event called Unleash the Power Within. There is where they all walked on hot coals together! With this thrilling experience, they brought a fresh look on how to manage their lives first, so that managing the business would be much simpler.

Installation Experience & Certification

Mr Tristan has installed some of the most challenging jobs and products. With nearly 30 years of installation experience and holds his own Contractors License number 1006121 Steve’s work speaks for itself.

These jobs include large vertical blinds, roller shades, and faux wood blinds in large apartment buildings. Also, installing window screens, sliding screen doors, and swinging screen doors in small homes and duplexes in the north end of the San Fernando Valley to high end homes in Malibu and Beverly Hills.

In addition, Steve has professionally installed Security Screen Doors, Plantation Shutters, Roman Shades, Draperies, Awnings, Motorization and Automated Shades. He is a certified Hunter Douglas installer, EPA Certified, and a WFCP Window Fashions Certified Professional. Even more so, he has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Restore on a blinds recycling drive to raise funds for their non profit.

Works of Charity

Steve also offers his services and products to charity. He has donated window covering products and installed them himself many times for organizations. One example is the Genesis House, which is a center for homeless women and their children. Second example is the LAPD Devonshire PALS, a community center for young children and teens to reduce juvenile crime, prevent gang activity, and build muscle in their character.

Personal Life

Most importantly, his personal life is filled with faith, family, friends and community. Most noteworthy, he is currently working on writing his autobiography to help people cope with abuse, drug addiction, and alcoholism, while growing in their faith.

Steve volunteers his extra time at his local church and in the community. He is the commander of security for local comm

unity fiestas – carnivals several weekends per year; and manages several security teams for such events. Mr Tristan carries a Bureau of Security and Investigative Services Guard Registration card and teaches a community course of volunteers on weapons of mass destruction and active shooter training. In addition, he is the Lecturer of the St Ferdinand’s council of the Knight of Columbus and is still very active in his family life.

Resilient

It’s not every day that you come across a person who grew up in the poor area of Pacoima and managed to become successful. To think he did it without any help, support, or even prior business training. Above all, to see someone like Steve give back is a good example that people can truly look to better themselves for their family and their careers.
