Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus in the San Fernando Valley. Health officials are notifying San Fernando Valley residents that mosquitoes in the area have tested positive for West Nile virus. Porter Ranch and Sherman Oaks just had mosquito samples taken. Last week, mosquitoes found in Panorama City, tested positive. Get rid of any standing water on your properties because those spots can become mosquito-breeding sites! Within the last year, Los Angeles County has seen a rise in West Nile Virus cases with over 200 being reported and leading to the death of 17 individuals. In a recent report for the Los Angeles Times, L.A. County is the 3rd highest in West Nile Virus cases with that number expected to increase. Although local cases of the virus in humans were reported in Florida last month, this is the first time that mosquitos were detected.
