How to Measure Cellular Shades – Instructions

TIPS ON HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WINDOWS FOR BLINDS & SHADES

Measuring your windows for Blinds and Shades can be easy. Let’s start with a few some requirements that apply to all type of the window blinds and shades.  It’s best to measure accurately TWICE and order ONCE.

Tip 1:

Highly recommended to use a minimum width 1″ steel tape measure. We prefer using the Stanley Fat Max Tape Measure. Do not ever, never, ever measure your windows with a yard stick, cloth tape, or ruler. Please watch our YouTube video on “How to read a tape measure,” know how to use a measuring tape.

Tip 2:

Measure & write down to the nearest eighth of an inch.  Never round your measurements. For example do not measure 33 3/8″ and call it 33″ or 34″.

Tip 3:

Please measure the width at the top middle and bottom. Always three places on width.

Then measure the height in three places left middle and right. Height measurements are critical. Provide the smallest measurement.

Tip 4:

Be sure to ALWAYS write down the width first, and then the height.

A common mistake customers make is reversing the numbers. Be accurate! Be sure not to get them backwards.

Tip 5:

Inside Mount – Do NOT take your own deductions . The blinds & shades shop will take care of the deductions.

Provide the EXACT WINDOW SIZE OPENING, do not use the size of an existing blind in that window. If you take your own deductions and order as an inside mount then it will be considered a measuring error. It will be a double deduction and the shade will be too small for your window. BCS does not take responsibility for measuring mistakes by customer.

Tip 6:

Outside Mount – Provide the exact blind size needed. Cordless Cellular Shades Require a minimum of 2″ to 4″ to the width of your window.  Please measure at your discretion.  Customer takes full responsibility for their own measurements.

Choose Inside or Outside Mount:

Before breaking out your measuring tape and taking any measurements, kick back near your window and decide if you want to mount the window treatment inside the window recessed on the bottom sill or outside on the wall or moulding.

Recommendation:

Most noteworthy, an outside mount blind or shade can make a window appear larger or hide an unattractive window. When you order inside mount, BCS will make a size deduction to allow for operating clearance.

Most importantly, with BCS cellular products will deduct up to 1/4″ from each side. If you specify an outside mount, we will not take any size deductions. Your blind will be made at the exact size that is specified.
